SBY Avoids Intervening in Aulia Pohan's Conditional Release

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono did not intervene in his conditional release of his brother in-law, former Bank Indonesia Deputy Aulia Pohan, who had been released from the Cipinang jail on August 18, 2010. Minister, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta Friday that Aulia Pohan’s release was carried out under the full authority of the Minister of Justice and Human Rights Patrialis Akbar.

"The President did not intervene in the case at all. It is the power of the Justice and Human Rights Minister," he added.

The conditional release of Aulia Pohan and three other prisoners involved in the BI cash flow, namely Maman Somantri, Bun Bunan Hutapea, and Aslim Tadjuddin, was made because the four had spent two-third of their jail terms. Before the conditional release, Aulia Pohan had received two remissions, for six and three months, respectively.

At the appeal to the Supreme Court, Aulia Pohan had been sentenced to three years in jail and fine of Rp200 million for approving the disbursement of the fund of Bank Indonesia Development Foundation (YPPI) which eventually went to the House of Representatives (DPR) for discussion of the Banking Draft Law.
