Over 18 Thousand in SE Sulawesi Suffer from Diarrhea




Kendari, Indonesia (News Today) - The Southeast Sulawesi Health Service said from January to May 2010 the number of people affected by diarrhea in the province reached 18,237.

"Some 2,771 of the cases were less than one year old children, 5,955 aged 1 to 4 years, 9,511 above five years," secretary of the Southeast Sulawesi health service Barwik Sirait said in Kendari Friday.

He said the diarrhea affected people had been located in eight regencies and two towns in the province, and mostly in Kendari where there were 3,351 of them. Barwik said the area which is the second with most of the people affected with diarrhea are Konawe Konawe regency with 3,181 sufferers, followed by Kolaka regency with 2,756, and South Konawe with 2,134 cases.

"The other areas are North Kolaka regency with 1,678 cases, North Buton regency with 382 cases, Baubau town with 1,642 cases, Muna regency with 964 cases, Bombana regency with 951 cases, and Wakatobi regency with 1,198 cases," he said.
