Foreign tourists sunbathe on Kuta beach on Indonesias island of Bali March 25, 2010. Indonesias Constitutional Court on Thursday threw out an appeal of a controversial anti-porn law, in a blow to some secular parties, minorities and artists who had said it threatened freedom of expression. The law was widely criticised.Denpasar, Indonesia (News Today) - The number of local tourists in 2011 may increase by 6.3 pct, Udayana University’s Economic Faculty Dean Prof Dr Wayan Ramantha said.
"The increase is the result of an increased target of the 2011 national economic growth," he said here Monday.
He also said that the 2011 economic growth rate will also have an effect on the number of local tourists to Bali. He said tourism developments are substantially affected by the economic situation.
Economic growth will increase business activities including tourism activities. He also stated that economic growth normally will raise the income of the people, which will in turn increase tourism activities.
"Bali is the main destination of tourists in Indonesia, millions of local tourists will come to the island paradise," Ramantha said.
According to a survey and global documentation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of domestic tourists to Bali accounted for 150 percent of the number of foreign tourists. If last year the number of foreign tourists reached 2.45 million, the number of domestic tourists in the same year reached more than 3.2 million.
Ramantha added that of this year the central government set a growth of 10 percent, and considering the afore mentioned estimate, the number of domestic tourists will reach more than 3.5 million.
When asked about the widespread building of city hotels in Denpasar, Ramantha said the phenomenon is only natural, because it is only natural that Denpasar as administrative center in Bali has adequate tourist and accommodation facilities.
"Denpasar is a city center with many business and government meetings and activities. This city therefore needs adequate and representative hotels," he said.
He said that in the past few years Denpasar indeed had many big hotels like the one at Jalan Teuku Umar which became a business center with several three and four star-rated hotels, and domestic tourists chose the hotels for spending their holidays.
"Especially that the room rates in Denpasar are lower than those of similar hotels in the tourist resorts of Kuta and Nusa Dua, Badung regency," he said.
He added that the hotels in Denpasar have far different characteristics than most hotels in Kuta and Nusa Dua.
"Hotels in Denpasar are smaller with few parts. Unlike those in the resorts in Nusa Dua and Ubud with their wide parts and swimming pools," he said.
