Banda Aceh, Indonesia (News Today) - Two Indonesians hailing from Aceh, identified by their initials as BS and TI, had been sentenced to death by hanging in Malaysia for narcotic drug pushing and circulation.
Deputy coordinator of the Aceh KontraS working committee, Asiah Uzia, said in Banda Aceh on Wednesday that the bad news came from a letter signed by BS sent to KontraS on Wednesday.
The letter had a stamp of a Malaysian jail in Kedah. "The letter said BS and TI had been sentenced to death by hanging by the Malaysian Supreme Court, but he said did not know when the execution will be carried out," he said.
He added that the letter said BS and TI had earlier they had been held at Kajang jail, then transferred to Pokok Sena jail in Kedah.
Asiah said the only way left would be asking the Malaysian government for a pardon from the Indonesian government, both orally and in writing.
In the letter, BS and TI hoped the Aceh governor would visit them at Pokok Sena jail and at the same time asked for a pardon to the Malaysian Kingdom to have their verdict reduced.
"KontraS will coordinate with a team of lawyers which the governor had once formed, to reduce the capital punishment. We will also try to make sure that the Aceh administration made concrete efforts of making a request for pardon," Asiah Uzia said.
