Indonesian Marine Shot by 6 Armed Men

Situbondo, Indonesia (News Today) - An Indonesian marine Sergeant Major Mahfud was rushed to Elizabeth Hospital after being shot by at least six unknown armed men here early Wednesday. His condition was reportedly critical after a bullet hit and passed through his stomach.

The shooting occurred at a brothel in Penarukan sub-district, East Java Province, at about 00:45 am local time on early Wednesday. A witness named Mashut said seven attackers wearing masks approached the victim and shot him twice.

"I heard two shots. The brothel visitors got panicked," he said.

Meanwhile, Chief of Situbondo police precinct Adjunct Senior Commissioner Imam Tabroni said the police investigators still handled this shooting case.

"We have yet to know the real motive of the attackers but it can be related to personal revenge," he said.

The police investigators had questioned some witnesses but, due to the victim’s critical condition, he had yet to be asked to reveal those behind the shooting and their motives, Tabroni said.

The Elizabeth Hospital’s doctors and paramedics had no longer handled the seriously injured marine. Instead, they had transported him to Soebandi Public Hospital in the East Java city of Jember due to his critical condition.
