Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Wednesday it expects the construction of eight power plants to be completed this year, with a total capacity of 1,400 megawatts.
Three of the coal-fueled power plants are located in Java and the other five outside Java, the ministry said. The eight projects are part of the first phase of the government's efforts to boost power capacity by 10,000 MW by 2014.
So far, only one project--the 600-MW Labuan plant--has been completed under the program, which started in 2007. The government cited problems with land clearing as the main culprit for the slow progress in the projects, which are also aimed at cutting the use of gasoil to generate electricity.
