Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to attend a grand prayer and national gathering at Istiqlal mosque in Jakarta at the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan, the chief organizer said.
A number of state officials, ministers of the United Indonesia Cabinet, ambassadors of friendly countries, representatives of Muslim organizations and about 35,000 other invitees will attend the mass prayer event, chief organizer Priyo Budi Santoso said here on Wednesday.
In the company of a number Muslim figures, Priyo said that the event which would be themed: "Islam Brings Peace," was intended to eliminate views that Islam was identical with violence. He said that Islam brought peace and blessing to the world.
Therefore views that Islam was identical with violence should be eliminated. Islam brought blessings, peace, politeness and convenience for all human beings.
