Former Indonesia Minister Again Undergoes KPK Questioning

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) again questioned former Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah here on Monday. Bachtiar was questioned again by the KPK in relation with an alleged corruption case in the procurement of sewing machine and cow import by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

"I am questioned as a suspect," Bachtiar told the newsmen as he arrived at KPK office here on Monday.

Earlier on July 8, 2010, the former social affairs minister was also questioned by the KPK as a witness in the procurement of clothing such as sarongs by social affairs ministry. The suspect of alleged corruption case in the clothing procurement was Cecep Ruhyat, the director of PT Dinar Semesta as Social Ministry’s partner company in the procurement.

While in the corruption case of sewing machine procurement and cow import, the Corruption Eradication Commission has named Bachtiar Chamsyah as a suspect since February 2010. Bachtiar was alleged to have knowledge surrounding the procurement process which was initially intended for poor people, but KPK deemed that there was a mark up in the project.

Preliminary calculation showed that the case of sewing machine procurement in 2004 was worth Rp51 billion and had inflicted the state loss of Rp24 billion, while the cow import project was worth Rp19 billion and inflicted state loss of Rp3.6 billion.
