What Indonesia Can Expect from New Australian Prime Minister




Amsterdam (News Today) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono congratulates Julia Gillard, the new Australian Prime Minister.

"On behalf of the Indonesian government, I congratulate Prime Minister Julia Gillard for the trust to lead Australia," President Yudhoyono said in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on his trip to the G20 summit at Toronto, Canada, Friday.

The President hoped that relations between Indonesia and Australia may be continue and find new opportunities of cooperation. According to him, Kevin Rudd has always found a solution full of friendship in solving every bilateral issue.

"The same expectations also go to the new Prime Minister," he said.

The Indonesian delegation was scheduled to meet Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for a bilateral meeting in the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

"Bilateral meeting agenda is still fixed, but the delegates will meet Australia’s deputy PM in Toronto," he said.

On his transit in Amsterdam, President Yudhoyono also had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Julia Gillard. President Yudhoyono was also scheduled to make working visits three countries, Canada, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, for 11 days.

Julia Gillard became Australia`s first female prime minister, after Kevin Rudd resigned as Labor Party leader. Australian Finance Minister Wayne Swan was elected as the Labor Party`s deputy leader.
