(News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is monitoring the current process to select candidates for the post of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief, a cabinet minister said. Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto said the President at a meeting with several cabinet members on Monday had asked about the process but gave no comment about it.
"One of the issues discussed at the meeting was the selection of candidates for KPK leader as today was the final day for registration of applicants. He asked how it had gone," he said.
Djoko said the President did not express any hope or view about the process of selection which is being done by a committee led by the law and human rights minister. He said President Yudhoyono fully left the matter to the selection committee whose members’ credidibity was unquestionable.
He said the head of state only wished to know about the substance of the process while leaving the technicalities to the selection committee. Finance Minister Agus Martowardoyo meanwhile said on the occasion that he had already disbursed the budget for the selection so the committee should have no financial problem in carrying out its task.
