(News Today) - Jakarta Police have called on the management of the TransJakarta busway to install CCTV camera in their buses and shelters as a way to prevent sexual harassment and petty crimes committed by passengers.
City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said Tuesday the surveillance cameras would help passengers who fall victim to such crimes to bring their cases to trial.
“The CCTV recordings can be used as evidence for the police to follow up reports from the victims,” he said.
Last week, a female TransJakarta passenger reported a man to the South Jakarta Police for alleged sexual harassment.
The woman said the man had grabbed her several times when the two had been in a TransJakarta bus plying Corridor I connecting Blok M in South Jakarta and Kota, West Jakarta.
The police, however, dropped the case as there were no witnesses.
