Fifty-Four Nominate for KPK Chairmanship




Jakarta (News Today) - Fifty-four people from various elements of the community have nominated for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership, the committee tasked with selecting the commission’s chairman said. All the nominees have submitted their applications to the committee by 04.00 p.m. on Monday, according to the list of nominees put on the announcement board at the committee secretariat at the law and human rights ministry.

The nominees include civil servants, lawyers, military and police officers, academicians and judges. The committee said a total of 299 people had come to the secretariat but most of them only asked for information on the selection of nominees for KPK leadership.

Among the lawyers who have their names put in the list of nominees are Henry Yosodiningrat, Otto Cornelis Kaligis, Yusuf Asyid, Pangihutan Nasution, Farhat Abbas, Alam P. Simamora, and Cacang S. Murtado. Also in the list of nominees are retired services including Major General (ret) Kivlan Zein and former economy economy director for the National Police detective agency (Bareskrim) Brig. Gen. Weni Warouw.

The committee will open the registration of aspiring candidates until June 14. The committee will select two of the candidates and later report them to the president. The president will then pass on the two candidates to the House of Representatives (DPR) to undergo a fit and proper test. The DPR will select one of the two candidates to be inducted as KPK chairman.
