Earthquake causes panic in Bengkulu




Bengkulu, Sumatra (News Today) - An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale caused inhabitants of Benua Galing sub district, Kepahiang District, Bengkulu Province, to rush out of buildings in panic on Sunday (June 27).

"We are still traumatized by the earthquake yesterday. It was so strong the food that we prepared for a wedding ceremony spilled out," Herman, a local resident, said, here, Monday.

According to information on the official website of the national meteorology, climatology and geophysics office, the earthquake was felt at the III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity).

The quake`s epicenter was located at 4.62 degrees southern latitude, and 101.17 degrees eastern longitude and a depth of 16 km below sea level, around 152 km southwest of Bengkulu.
