Lindsay Lohan faces unhappy judge Monday

Los Angeles, California (News Today) - Lindsay Lohan's European holiday is over and she must now stand before a judge who delayed her own vacation to deal with the wayward actress.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel, who had planned to take the week off, ordered the 23-year-old actress to appear in her Beverly Hills, California, courtroom Monday morning.

Revel has given Lohan several second chances, but she appeared ready to lay down the law when Lohan missed Thursday's hearing on her probation for a 2007 drunk driving conviction.

Defense lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley told the judge that Lohan was unable to catch a flight from France two days earlier because she lost her passport at the Cannes Film Festival.

Thursday's hearing was to determine if Lohan had been attending weekly alcohol counseling sessions as ordered, but her absence prompted Revel to rule there was "probable cause to believe (Lohan) is in violation of probation."

The judge revoked Lohan's probation, issued an arrest warrant and imposed new conditions.

"I warned her before," Revel said. "She knew it was very serious."

Lohan was not arrested when she finally arrived in Los Angeles from France on Saturday because her $100,000 bond had already been posted.

Monday's court session is intended to set a date for a full hearing on Lohan's probation revocation, but the judge's decision to delay her own vacation could indicate she has more in mind for Lohan.

Revel has a reputation as a lenient and even jovial judge, until a defendant tests her authority.

Revel told Lohan during her court appearance in October that although she wanted Lohan to have her career, the actress could not "thumb your nose" at the court.

Lohan traveled to France last week to promote her newest movie role as 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace. She was not allowed to board the return flight Tuesday because she had no passport, Holley said.

Holley said Lohan's passport may have been stolen, and "they think they know who stole it."

Lohan was issued a temporary passport by the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France, on Thursday, Holley said.

The prosecutor said Lohan should be asked to show documents to prove that she had booked a return flight earlier in the week.

After Thursday's hearing, Holley suggested that the judge was tougher on Lohan because she's a celebrity.

"She's got an excellent progress report from the alcohol program," the lawyer said. "She's done 10 of the 13 classes that she was ordered to do, so you might say that's not a stellar performance, but the fact is, it's along the lines of most people in the alcohol program."

The judge said Lohan must attend one class a week, unless she is given court permission to adjust the schedule for work. Lohan never asked for permission, Revel said.

Lohan's father, who has had a well-publicized fight with his daughter, attended the hearing but was not allowed to speak.

Michael Lohan sent the judge a letter asking that his daughter be ordered to enter a drug rehabilitation program instead of jail.

Lohan cannot drink alcohol until a full hearing on her probation revocation, Revel said. Lohan will be fitted with a bracelet to detect whether she has been drinking, the judge said.

Random drug testing also will be performed on the actress because of previous evidence that she was under the influence of cocaine, Revel said.

Lohan was arrested twice in 2007 on charges of driving under the influence and in the second incident she was also charged with cocaine possession.

The first arrest came after Lohan lost control of her Mercedes-Benz convertible and struck a curb in Beverly Hills.

Just two weeks after checking out of a Malibu drug and alcohol rehab facility, she was arrested again in July 2007 after a woman called Santa Monica police, saying Lohan was trying to run her down with a car.
