Cilacap (News Today) - At least 4,000 people will be employed at Pertamina Refinery in Cilacap, Central Java, which will be undergoing a three-week turn around (TA) in July this year.
"We have recruited the personnel we will need, and they are now completing their administrative requirements. There is no problem, because this is a routine thing that we do once in every three years," spokesman for Pertamina Refinery in Cilacap Kurdi Susanto said here Monday.
Most of the workers involved in the project came from Cilacap. Besides, he added, Pertamina’s business partner had also brought personnel with specialized skills.
He said the turn around (TA) will be conducted on the fuel oil complex (FOC) II with a view to maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. In this context, he said, the Pertamina headquarters had discussions on security of fuel oil supply. In this case, he added, Pertamina has prepared fuel oil reserves prior to the turn around, to prevent the consumers from running short of fuel oil.
"The fuel oil reserves are prepared by consolidatiion by way of other refineries," he said.
FOC I of Pertamina in Cilacap was built in 1974 and started operations on August 24, 1976 with an initial capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, which had been raised to 118,000 barrels per day in 1998 and 1999. In the meantime, FOC II was built in 1981, and started operating on August 4, 1983 with an initial capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, and raised to 230,000 barrels per day in 1998 and 1999.
All in all, Pertamina in Cilacap has the highest production capacity in Indonesia reaching 348,000 barrels per day, which are also of strategic significance, because it is supplying 34 percent of the national fuel oil consumption, or 60 percent of the fuel oil consumption on Java island. Right now Pertamina in Cilacap is the only refinery in the country which produces asphalt and base oil for building infrastructure projects in the country.
