(News Terupdate) - Twenty people were killed when commuter trains crashed in Belgium Monday, the mayor of the town where the accident took place told the country's national news agency.
Wounded were being treated at a sports center near the scene of the accident in Halle, Belgium, the Belga news agency reported.
The crash took place during morning rush hour when people were on their way to work, Belga journalist Eric Vidal told CNN from the scene.
Pictures showed people being taken from the crash site by stretcher as snow fell. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

Passengers who were not hurt in the crash were taken away by bus, according to Vidal.
He said people had come to the station to try to find family members who may have been involved in the crash.
It was not clear how many trains were involved in the accident. Halle mayor Dirk Pieters said two trains crashed, while the rail company Thalys said three.
The crash forced Eurostar to suspend high-speed train services between London, England and Brussels, Belgium, the company announced. London-to-Paris services are not affected, Eurostar said.
Local trains were also suspended, Thalys said.
