Indonesia Provides USD1.73 Million to Pakistan

Islamabad (News Today) - The Indonesian government will soon provide 1.73 million dollars in cash to the Pakistani government to help flood victims.

"The cash donation will be transferred through the Indonesian embassy in Pakistan on Wednesday (Sept 14)," Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono said on Tuesday.

The minister said the assistance will be the second-stage help from the Indonesian government to Pakistan. He said the 3.3 million dollars will be sent in two stages, namely 1.3 million dollars early in August 2010 in the form of logistics and medical supplies, while two million dollars in cash totalling 1.73 million dollars, and the remaining 270,000 dollars for the rapid reaction team of disaster handling which would bring the humanitarian mission for the flood victims in Pakistan.

"So, the total assistance from Indonesia to Pakistan reached 3.3 million US dollars," he said.

In the meantime, Indonesian ambassador to Pakistan Ishak Latuconcina said he has been informed that a sum of 1.73 million US dollars from the central government will be sent to Pakistan by way of the Indonesian embassy in Islamabad.

"After we have received the money, we will hand it to Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani," he said.

He also said that the embassy will not hand the money before meeting the Pakistani Prime Minister in person.

"We wish to make sure that the money had been received by the Pakistani government and also to confirm reports in the Pakistan media on the Indonesian government’s assistance," he said.
