70 Indonesians Facing Death Penalty in Malaysia




Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - A total of 70 Indonesians in Malaysia are now facing execution after the Malaysian courts sentenced them to death, a senior official said. Director General of Manpower Development of the Ministry of Manpower Abdul Malik Harahap said here on Saturday that the 70 death convicted Indonesians were now in the Malaysian jails.

He said that based on the government’s data, the total number of Indonesians who had been sentenced in Malaysia reached 6,845 persons. Of the total, 177 are now facing capital punishment. Of this number, 142 were involved drug cases and 35 in murder and illegal possessions of fire arms.

"Of the 177 facing capital punishment, 70 have been sentenced to death," the director general said. He stated that 63 of the 70 convicted Indonesians were involved in drug cases and seven in fire arms possession cases.
