Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The House of Representatives (DPR) urged police on Sunday to investigate the low quality of premium grade gasoline circulating in the community.
"The police must conduct a comprehensive investigation to solve the case as soon as possible. Don’t let the case drag on," Bambang Soesatyo of the House Commission III said.
State oil and gas company Pertamina and police must provide true explanations on the quality of premium grade gasoline, he said.
"That’s why Pertamina and its distributors must support the police’s step to probe the low quality of premium grade gasoline," he said.
He said he was concerned about the fact that some people had accused Pertamina of lowering premium grade gasoline’s octane intentionally.
"I don’t believe Pertamina has the courage to do the improper thing. But some people have accused Pertamina of doing it so as to reduce premium grade (subsidized) gasoline consumption and encourage consumers to switch to its other products of better quality such as Pertamax," he said.
He said one week before the case came under the spotlight he heard a taxi driver who supposed premium grade gasoline contained lead.
"Consequently, many cars have their fuel pumps damaged," he said.
"I hope Pertamina will not underestimate the problem merely as an "attack" to tarnish the image of the state-owned company. Neither will it blame the car industry and taxi companies or the other way around," he said.
