New Money Prepared by BI toward Lebaran

Tegal, Indonesia (News Today) - Bank Indonesia (the central bank/BI) is preparing small change for the public wishing to have their old money exchanged into new ones on the occasion of the upcoming post fasting festivities (Lebaran).

"The exchange into new money will be intensified by many ways, as requests for new money normally increased in the runup of the Lebaran," head of Tegal city BI office Tri Selo said in Tegal Wednesday.

He also said that the increase of the activity would be possible by increasing the time for the exchange from twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) to every day with the exception of Fridays.

Another way to intensify the exchange is the operation of mobile cash vans, especially to serve people living in remote places. The operation of Tegal city BI office covers Pekalongan and Bumiayu and environs. Each of the mobile cash vans will carry Rp 200 million on ordinary working days.

"Close to Lebaran, we will prepare Rp400 million," he added.

He also said that the small exchange mostly sought by the public are less than Rp10 thousand bills.
