Good Bye, General




Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Lieut. General (retired) Kemal Idris, former commander of the Army’s Strategic and Reserve Command (Pangkostrad), passed away at 87, in Abdi Waluyo hospital, here, early Wednesday. Kemal’s remains are currently being laid at his residence on Duta Indah I road No. 11, Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.

"My brother in-law died of complication and lung infection, in Abdi Waluyo Hospital, at around 3.30 am," Kurie Alim, told ANTARA.

His body was expected to be buried at his family’s cemetery in Citapen, Ciawi, Bogor, West Java, Wednesday at 10.30 am local time. According to online-encyclopedia Wikipedia, Ahmad Kemal Idris was born in Singaraja, Bali on February 10th, 1923.

He was an Indonesian guerrilla leader during the Indonesian National Revolution, who in 1949 was involved in continued resistance to the Dutch forces after they occupied Yogyakarta. In 1965-1966, Idris was chief of staff of the Strategic Reserve. He had an important role in the overthrow of Sukarno and the rise Suharto to power.
