Get in line for thousands of aircraft Bring Aid to Haiti




Washington, DC - Nearly 1,400 aircraft from various countries have lined up to bring aid to Haiti. Emergency airports around Haiti are now 'forced' into temporary emergency airport.

U.S. Southern Command Commander General Douglas Fraser said that as reported by Russian news agency Itar-Tass and the debut of the New Straits Times, Saturday (23/1/2010). According to Douglas, the airport has opened an alternative to speed the arrival of these planes.


Since Wednesday (20 / 1) and then, some aid flights have landed at the small airport in Jacmel, 48 kilometers southeast of the capital of Haiti. In addition, the airport of San Isidro, Santo Domingo in the country has been opened. Barahona Airport, close to the Dominican Republic, now also been opened as an alternative airport.

Until now, according to Douglas, the U.S. military has been successfully sent 1.4 million bottles of water to Haiti, 700 thousand rations, and about ten tons of drugs. The security situation in the country, continued Douglas, is also still relatively safe.

"Although there are incidents of looting, violence and other criminal activities, the overall security situation remained calm," said Fraser.
