Indonesia Keen on Participating in Trade Exhibitions in Malaysia

Bandung, Indonesia (News Today) - Indonesia is keen on taking part in international exhibitions, especially in Malaysia, as a platform to promote products by its small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Cooperative and Small Medium Enterprise Minister Syariefudin Hasan said this approach was part of Indonesia's marketing efforts to empower the country's small and medium industry.

"The role of SMEs in Indonesia is very important. They contribute 56 per cent towards Indonesia's gross domestic product and 20.6 per cent towards export revenue.

"That's why the government is always formulating policies to help this industry to continue to grow," he told a group of visiting Sabah journalists at the West Java Cooperative Fair here.

Syariefudin said there were over 51 million small and medium entreprenuers in Indonesia and they contributed 97 per cent to total employment. He also said the country was excited to take part in the Sabah International Expo 2010 in October.

"Every time we take part in exhibitions in Malaysia, all the products we sell are always sold out.

"If this is always the case, then we believe there is potential market for our SME products in Malaysia," he said.
