More than Two Million Foreign Tourists Visit Indonesia




Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said in the first five months of 2010, the number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia reached 2.77 million. Head of BPS Rusman Heriawan said in Jakarta Thursday the total increased 14.59 percent compared to the 2.41 million in last year’s same period.

"A total of 944,476 of them arrived in Indonesia by way of Ngurah Rai airport," he said.

In the meantime, in May this year, Indonesia received 600,031 foreign tourists, which was a 15.01 percent increase compared to the 521,700 in the same period last year. Rusman said the visits of foreign tourists to Indonesia increased 7.94 percent compared to those in April 2010.

He said the increase in the number of foreign tourists had also raised hotel occupation rate (TPK), especially of star-rated hotels by an average of 51.22 percent, or up 3.39 point compared to the 47.83 percent in May last year.

"Compared to April 2010, the hotel occupation rate of star-rated hotels also increased 1.45 point," he added.

According to BPS, the number of foreign tourists to Bali by way of Ngurah Rai in May 2010 increased 4.56 percent compared to May last year. Also compared to April 2010, the number of foreign tourists to Bali increased 8.23 percent from 184.2 thousands to 199.4 thousands in May 2010.
