House begins plenary session on Century

(News Terupdate) - The House of Representatives has begun a plenary session to determine the legislative body's final stance on the Bank Century bailout case.

Today's session will satisfy the public's curiosity on whether the House would mention the names of Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as the most responsible individuals behind the bailout, deemed controversial when it was found that the bailout had increased tenfold to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) from initial estimates.

In November 2008, Boediono, in his capacity as the Bank Indonesia governor, authorized the bailout together with Mulyani.

Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) legislator Fahri Hamzah said that his party would maintain its stance to mention the names of Boediono and Mulyani.

"We deem that there is no need for each party to deliver its final speech on the case, so the session can be resolved quickly and we can begin the legal process," he said.
