(News Terupdate) - Businessman Sigid Haryo Wibisono escaped capital punishment after the South Jakarta District Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of state company director Nasruddin Zulkarnaen on Thursday.
The panel of judges said the defendant was proved guilty of committing premeditated murder, which is punishable by death under the Criminal Code.
The judges said that they took the fact that the defendant had never previously violated the law and the victim’s responsibility to feed three wives and four children as mitigating factors.
Prosecutors had accused Sigid of providing the funds needed to recruit hit men to kill Nasruddin.
