Judges find Wiliardi ‘misused’ authority to help Antasari

(News Terupdate) - Presiding judges said the evidence presented against former South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wiliardi Wizard proved he misused his authority and cooperated with other defendants in the murder of Nasruddin Zulkarnaen.

“As a high-ranking official at the National Police, the defendant should have known that his involvement in the murder was a severe violation of the law,’ said Ahmad Solikin, one of the judges on the case.

Nasruddin, the former director of state pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran, was killed in March last year in a drive-by shooting near the Modernland golf course in Tangerang.

Wiliardi, allegedly arranged the recruitment of the hitmen, while media tycoon Sigid Haryo Wibisono allegedly provided the financial backing.

In a previous hearing, Wiliardi said that he had been approached by the former National Police deputy chief detective, Insp. Gen. Hadiatmoko, and his colleagues at the Jakarta Police to make a “necessary” dossier that would implicate Antasari.

“They said their target was only Antasari Azhar,” he said.

“The [Jakarta Police] chief detective then told me to sign a prepared statement similar to that signed by Sigid Haryo Wibisono because that was the instruction from a superior officer.”

When reading out their verdict, the judges, however, did not take his testimony into consideration.
Insp. Gen. Oegroseno, the head of the police’s internal affairs division, said that Wiliardi was still considered a member of the police corps.

“We will wait until the legal process reaches its final decision.

“Afterwards, we will organize an ethical council team to process Wiliardi’s dismissal as a police official,” he said Thursday.

The legal process could be prolonged as Wiliardi’s lawyer are preparing to file an appeal.

In separate hearings on Thursday, businessman Sigid Haryo Wibisono also escaped the death penalty after the court decided to sentence him to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the Nasruddin murder.

The panel of judges said the defendant was proven guilty of committing premeditated murder, which is punishable by death under the Criminal Code.

The judges said they took the fact the defendant had never previously violated the law and his responsibility to feed three wives and four children into account.

Meanwhile, Jerry Hermawan Lo was sentenced to five years for helping Wiliardi recruit the hitmen to kill Nasruddin.

“The judges considered the defendant actually knew the purpose behind the recruitment request,” said presiding judge Syamsuddin.

Both Jerry and Sigid said they would lodge an appeal against the court’s verdicts.
