Head of the Riau Islands marine police squad Commissioner Bambang saod the boat was sailing from Karimun to Batam when it ran aground at 7.30 pm local time.
"We have evacuated all the passengers, and nobody was hurt in the incident," Bambang said.
Four marine police patrol boats picked up and evacuated all the passengers of Dumai Ekspres 16.i to Sekupang port.
Investigation shows that Dumai 8 had deviated from its Karimun-Batam line for unknown reasons.
He added that the police had to wait for low tide to evacuate the stuck vessel.
