A model stands by a Sharp Quattron 70-inch LCD TV after the television was introduced during a news conference at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada January 5, 2011.Tokyo, Japan (News Today) - Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corp. says it has sued Taiwanese flat panel maker AU Optronics Corp. over alleged patent violation for liquid crystal displays. Sharp said Tuesday it filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeking a ban on U.S. sales of products using liquid crystal displays panels and liquid crystal display modules made by the Taiwanese maker.
Such products are used in LCD televisions and screens used for computers. Sharp also filed a lawsuit against AU Optronics at the District Court for Delaware, demanding damage over patent infringement of liquid crystal displays. In Taiwan, AU Optronics issued a brief statement without commenting directly on the Sharp suit.
“We respect (a) third party’s intellectual property rights, and we also expect others to respect our intellectual property rights, and we will protect the interest of our company and of our customers,” the statement said.
