Jakartas governor Fauzi Bowo plans to regulate vehicle use in the capital, especially motorcycles, after Indonesias Transport Department revealed data on registered vehicles in the capital reached 6.7 million units.

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - New car sales in Indonesia rose 57% in 2010 to 764,710 units from 486,061 units a year earlier, the association of car assemblers, Gaikindo, said Thursday. It said PT Astra International (ASII.JK) sold 426,467 units in 2010, compared with 281,013 units by the end of 2009.

Astra had a domestic market share of 56% last year. Gaikindo didn't provide a reason for the increase in domestic car sales, but analysts attributed it to the firmer rupiah and relatively low interest rates.

Meanwhile, Gaikindo said the nation's motorcycle sales for 2010 rose 26% to 7.37 million units.
