Foreigners Cut Holdings in Indonesian Govt Bonds by IDR7.41T

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Foreigners reduced their holdings in Indonesia's rupiah-denominated government bonds by IDR7.41 trillion ($819 million) during the week ended Jan. 14, according to Finance Ministry data released Wednesday.

Foreigners now hold IDR191.34 trillion of the government bonds, bringing their share of the bonds to 30% of the total outstanding amount, down from 31% a week earlier. But their share of domestic government bonds remains among the highest in the region, economists say.

Foreigners have been reducing their holdings of Indonesian assets due to concerns about rising inflationary pressures in the Southeast Asian country. The recent selloffs in Indonesian bonds and stocks have weakened the rupiah, but the local unit is slowly regaining ground amid a gradual recovery in the local stock market.
