SBY: Do The Best You Can





Semarang, Indonesia (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reiterated that police officers, especially those who had just been inaugurated, need to be professional and uphold ethics while on duty. The president made the call when installing 465 newly graduated police officers at the Police Academy in Semarang Thursday morning.

"The people’s confidence in the police may declina if their performance is not as expected. As the people have high hopes, as a head of state I asked the police to constantly increase their capacity and performance and always avoid making mistakes in carrying out their tasks," the President pointed out.

The head of state also said that in the performance of their tasks as a police officer, they also need to constantly develop themsleves as the police is currently facing heavy challenges.

"In the era of transformation, reform, and national awakening in the 21th century high hopes are expected from the police. The people wish to see the police in the fore front in law enforcement and crime eradication, protection and fighting special crimes like corruption, terrorism, narcotics, tax evation and illegal logging," the President said.

Right now, he added, the task of the police is not only protecting the people but also need to be ready for humanitarian tasks and peacekeeping mission abroad.

"I support the current police internal reforms. There so many tasks the police has to carry out, and often with high risks," the President said.

"Do the best you can, increase competition, develop science, maintain good ethics and professional ethics, develop a strong spitit, self confidence, and always close to God Almighty," he stressed.

The 465 new officers consisted of 79 young officers of detachment 42, 314 of detachment 43, and 72 officers of detachment 43. They will join the 27,000 company-grade officers (captains and lieutenants) supervising 360,000 non-commissioned officers throughout Indonesia.
