Indonesian Supporters Appealed to Remain Fair

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng appealed to supporters of the country’s national football team to maintain sportsmanship in the second leg of the ASEAN Football Federation Cup here on Wednesday.

"I am still optimistic our team may still win the match. I ask players and supporters not to take revenge for the unfairness that has been shown by Malaysian supporters. We must win fairly and respectfully in our home," he said here on Monday.

Indonesia lost 0-3 to Malaysia in the first leg of the final round of the AFF Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. The goals were made in the second half and after Indonesia stopped to play to protest against distractions from laser pointers made by Malaysian supporters.

Minister Andi Mallarangeng said Indonesia had already launched a strong protest against the organizer but so far no response had been given by them. He deplored the incident but said Indonesia need not take revenge when it hosts them in the second leg on Wednesday.

"With a 3-0 score for Malaysia we must admit that it will not be easy to beat Malaysia with a 4-0 score. But I am still confident Indonesia could beat Malaysia so long as the players remain focussed and concentrating to win the match later," he said.
