Democrat Believes A Solution on Yogyakarta's Polemics

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The political polemics on the Yogyakarta Special Province would eventually end with a solution, Democrat party chairman Anas Urbaningrum said here Sunday.

"I’m sure that there will be a solution to the polemic," he said.

The government had sent the draft bill on the Yogyakarta special province to the House of Representatives (DPR) to be discussed earlier this week. The government proposed a primary governorship post for the Sultan of Yogyakarta and also a definitive governorship post.

The draft bill proposed that the Yogyakarta governor be directly elected. "Now the ball has been in the hands of House’s members. This is an opportunity for them to discuss it arguably and transparently," he said.

Anas urged the members of parliament not to politicize that matter. He said his political party was listening to the people of Yogyakarta’s and national aspirations.

This matter was important not only for the special province of Yogyakarta but for the state and nation as well, he said adding that the Yogyakartans who had openly expressed their aspirations and those who remained silent need to be heard.
