A press release of the Trade Ministry said here Wednesday that on December 20, 2010 the Australian antidumping authority announced a halt of the antidumping investigation of glass products from Indonesia, China, and Thailand as there was no proof that it had caused a loss to industries in Australia.
The halt of the investigation reopened an opportunity of Indonesian companies and exporters to supply the Australian glass market. According to Comtrade data, the export of Indonesian certain clear float glass to Australia in 2008 reached 10.6 million US dollars and controlled 27.4 pct of the biggest Australian market share.
But in 2009 Indonesia’s glass exports to Australia dropped to 6.1 million US dollars with a market share of 21 pct. The halt of the antidumping investigation of Indonesian glass products is then expected to boost the export of the products to Australia.
The Australian antidumping authority started investigating antidumping of the Indonesian glass products on April 19, 2010. The government along with accused company followed up the dumping charges by presenting a defense.
The defense presented to Australia on May 27, 2010 included an explanation on the performance of the requesting industry which did not cause any serious loss. The accused company also presented its protest and denial.
The Australian antidumping authority conducted a verification on July 5-16, 2010, and issued a Statement of Essential Fact on the result of the antidumping investigation of the products of certain clear float glass saying that the margin dumping of the Indonesian company reached only 3.3 to 30.3 pct.
The Indonesian government and accused company then presented a protest and denial separately. In the protest and denial, the government emphasized on the performance of the Australia industry which turned to be positive, not suffering a loss due to dumping the glass products, so that the investigation had been halted.
