Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The Natiomal Defense Forces (TNI) is currently preparing a number of its personnel for assignment in Congo to take part in a United Nations peace-keeping mission (Monusco). The Garuda Contingent XX-H/Monusco team is now preparing itself at the Army Engineering Corps Education Center in Bogor, West Java, the head of the TNI’s public information service, Col Lek Prakoso, said here on Saturday.
"The team will replace the Konga XX-G/Monuc Taskforce whose tenure will end in October 2010," he said.
The team will undergo training for a month until October 14, 2010. During the training the TNI members would receive upgrading relating to construction and general matters, namely the Standardized Generic Training Modules (SGTM) and Standardized Training Modules (STM) as well as technical training through lectures, questions and answers, discussions and tactical training through combat, technical and tactical drills.
The Konga XX-H totalling 175 personnel is led by Lt Col Widianto who is currently Merauke 174’s head of logistics section.
"The engineering forces to be sent come from the Combat Engineering Corps 10 in Jayapura," Prakoso said.
The first participation of the TNI engineering corps in Congo was in 2003 when the Garuda Contingent XX-A joined the MONUC (Mission de L’Organization des Nations Unies en Republique Democratique du Congo).
As situation in Congo is getting more conducive the new taskforce will be involved more in the task of maintaining stability besides infrastrucuture development. This is in line with the resolution of the UN Security Council Number 1925 dated on May 28, 2010 on the extension of the UN mission and the change from MONUC to MONUSCO (Mission de L’Organization de Republic des Nation Unies Pour la Stabilisation en Republique Democratique du Congo) which emphasizes on security stability in Congo.
