Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - The Indonesia committee of the 2010 Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Cup championship here hopes the results of the drawing in Hanoi, Vitenam, will be attractive in commercial terms.
"In my capacity as an organizing committee member I hope the results of the drawing will be attractive in terms of show or commercial aspect. I hope the teams that will compete in Indonesia will be attractive," the head of the AFF Cup local organizing committee, Joko Driyono, said when contacted here on Monday.
Joko and the secretary general of the All Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Nugraha Besoes, and coach assistant Wolfgang Pikal have been in Hanoi, Vietnam, to attend the drawing that would be done on Wednesday. The championship which is used to be called Tiger Cup is to be held in two places namely Vietnam and Indonesia each to host the matches of one of the groups.
"Which will host Group A or Group B is not yet confirmed but as a host our team will certainly compete in the country," he said.
Indonesia has so far been able to reach the final rounds of the championship but has always failed to grab the champion title. This time, however, PSSI hopes the country would become the champion.
Nugraha Besoes saw the drawing as a suspense as through it Indonesia could be put in the group of strong teams such as Thailand and Singapore. Eight countries will take part in the championship and six of them will automatically pass the elimination round namely Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar.
Two more places will be competed by four countries namely Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines in Laos in October. The AFF Cup was first held in 1996.
