Bengkulu, Indonesia (News Today) - Three regencies and towns in Bengkulu province, including Bengkulu in North Bengkulu regency, and Muko Muko regency, had been declared as prone to natural disasters and tsunamis, head of Bengkul Natural Disaster Handling agency Nana Sujana said Wednesday.
"The national disaster handling agency had declared three regencies and towns as natural disaster and tsunami prone areas," he said in Bengkulu.
Nana said that Bengkulu, North Bengkulu regency and Muko Muko regency, are located in a meeting of active plates of Indoaustralia and Eurasia. The three areas have the same categories of six regencies and towns in the coast of West Sumatra included in West Sumatra province and two regions in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province.
"This was also proven by research result of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), declaring 11 regencies and towns as prone to natural disasters and tsunamis," he said.
Bengkulu Mayor Ahmad Kanedy said his city administration continued giving explanations to the people to make then in constant natural disaster readiness.
