Sex Lives of 600 Women of Different Ages

(News Today) - For women it's the time of life normally associated with hot flushes, laughter lines and middle-age spread.

But reaching her 40s and 50s can also be the start of a rather exciting chapter in a lady's life.

As far as sex is concerned, she is only just beginning to reach her peak.

Middle-aged women enjoy making love much more than those of younger generations, research shows.

Not only do they have sex more often, it is also more pleasurable, scientists claim.

While 54 per cent of women aged 18 to 30 have difficulties achieving an orgasm, only 43 per cent of those aged 31 to 45 experience the same problem.

Even those aged 46 to 54 are more likely to have pleasurable sex, with only 48 per cent reporting 'orgasm difficulties'.

American researchers also found that the most sexually active group of women are aged 31 to 45, with 87 per cent saying they made love regularly.

This was surprisingly higher than the number of those aged 18 to 30 claiming to be sexually active, which stood at 85 per cent.

Scientists studied the sex lives of 600 women of different ages.

Their research, published in the British Journal of Urology, concluded that love-making depended on a range of factors including confidence and the strength of the relationship.

Often women have much higher self-esteem and feel more comfortable with their partners during the later years of their lives.

The study also found that two out of three women suffer some form of sexual dysfunction such as lack of desire or satisfaction.

Dr Debra Fromer of Hackensack University Medical Centre, New Jersey, who led the research, said that this can seriously affect ' self-esteem, sense of wholeness and relationships, exacting a heavy emotional toll.

'Researchers have found significant-associations between major categories of sexual dysfunction, reduced physical and emotional satisfaction and general well-being.

'That is why it is so important to ensure problems are identified and tackled wherever possible.'

Other trends have suggested that women feel sexier in their 40s and 50s.

Earlier this year it emerged that middle-aged women were buying increasing amounts of fancy lingerie-such as thongs, suspenders and stockings.

Retailers said women were inspired by racy on-screen role models such as Sex And The City's Sam, played by Kim Cattrall.
