Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on regional governments and police forces to ensure security and order during the Islamic fasting month.
"During the month ahead of the (post-fasting) festivity, disruptions of security and order often happen. Be sure this year effective efforts are made to prevent them," he said at a cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.
President Yudhoyono also called for the prevention of violence or physical clashes or efforts by civilians to take the law into their own hands.
"So please seriously maintain the security and order," he said.
President Yudhoyono on the occasion also called on the police to prevent violence when they saw signs it could happen and disturb inter-religious harmony.
"The police must effectively prevent violence when they see signs it could happen. In this regard, I hope all relevant parties will coordinate with each other closely because in that way no problem will be unsolvable or unsurmountable," he said.
