SBY Closes Bogor Working Meeting

Bogor (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially closed the Third National Working Meeting at the Bogor Presidential Palace here Friday. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa presented a report on the implementation of the meeting, prior to the president’s closing remarks.

The meeting discussed four main agendas, namely the country’s macro economic conditions, acceleration of State Budget funds absorption, the State Budget, and regional budgets. The closing ceremony was attended by among others all cabinet ministers, governors, members of the Presidential Advisory Council, and president directors of state enterprises.

The Third National Working Meeting was held from August 5 to 6, 2010. The National Working Meeting is a forum for regional leaders to gain better knowledge of central government policies, especially for the drafting of regional budgets. On Thursday (Aug 5), President Yudhoyono said in his opening remarks that Indonesia had adopted the decentralization or regional autonomy concept in order to optimize development in each and every region as mandated by the reform movement.

"But although we have adopted decentralization, we remain a unitary state and the President is the head of the government," Yudhoyono said .

In a unitary state, all regions, including the autonomous ones, are united under the central government which runs the administration, he said. He reminded regional leaders not to make mistakes in preparing their regional budgets, and not to abuse the decentralization system in the other fields such as political, legal, security, and people’s welfare.
