No Sperm Bank in Indonesia, Please!

Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) bans transactions of sperm while allowing the establishment of breast milk bank on certain conditions. "Sperm donor is forbidden as well as sperm bank," declared Vice Secretary of MUI Fatwas Commision Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh at MUI National Workshop held in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Asrorun stated the fatwas while mentioning certain conditions needed to set a breast milk bank. "The first condition is the bank can be set after having a deal between babies' parents and donors including fee paid to donors," said Asrorun.

The deal is needed as it is considered haram or forbidden for babies breast-feeded by same donors to get married later. Parents knowing who the donors are hopefully can prevent this.

The other condition is donors must be fit and unpregnant while donoring their breast milk. "The donors must also follow Islamic law in their daily lives," stated Asrorun.
