Tanggerang, Indonesia (News Today) - Floods inundated some eighty houses in Cirendeu village, Ciputat Timur sub-district, Tangerang Selatan district, Banten Province, on Saturday. The flooding was caused by Situ Gintung Lake’s overflow.
"In my neighborhood, there are 80 houses being inundated," Usman, one of residents of Poncol, Cirendue, said.
"The flood water goes into my house on Saturday afternoon. We saved our furniture by moving them to higher ground," he said.
The torrential rains kept falling in various parts of Indonesia. As a result, floods and landslides occurred in certain areas. On Thursday, for example, floods also inundated a few thousand houses in the city of Gorontalo following hours of heavy rainfall.
Rescue workers were seen working hard to evacuate the residents whose houses were submerged by one-and-half-meter high flood waters, to higher areas. Hundreds of hectares of paddy fields around the capital of Gorontalo Province were also submerged and main roads were paralyzed.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains caused a landslide in Central Sulawesi Province this week. A part of Trans-Sulawesi highway linking Poso and Tentena was paralyzed by the landslide for a few days before returning to normal since Friday.
"All sorts of vehicles can pass the roads since Friday," Sinyo, a 45-year-old public bus driver serving the Palu-Poso-Makassar routes, said.
Before being cleared, the Poso-Tentena road was stuck after rocks and dirt covered by one-kilometer-long, including big rocks and fallen trees, he said. Cars and motorcycles could not pass the stuck roads, including buses and trucks.
Some of the motorists even spent a night waiting for the authorities to remove the rocks and dirt from the road, he said.
The heavy rains also triggered a flash flood in Timika, Papua Province. A newly constructed concrete bridge connecting Timika and Limau Asri-SP5 collapsed after being hit by the flash flood.
