SBY Continues Working Visit to Mataram

Mataram, Indonesia (News Today) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his entourage arrived in West Nusa Tenggara’s provincial city of Mataram to launch "Indonesia Free from Rolling Power Cut" program. The president arrived at Mataram’s Selaparang airport after a 19-minute flight from Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar, Bali.

President Yudhoyono’s entourage in the visit to Mataram is made up of among others Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Z Saleh, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malarangeng, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono, and presidential spokesman Julian A Pasha.

West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Government Spokesman Lalu Moh Faozal said that the Indonesia free from rolling power cut program was initially scheduled to be launched by Vice President Boediono early this month, but it was later canceled, and the president himself would inaugurate it.

He said the president’s activities in NTB would be centered at the Bumi Glora Square of the NTB Governor office in conjunction with the transfer of funds of state electricity company PT PLN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for 37 groups of recipients.

Prior to President Yudhoyono’s arrival in Mataram, the West Nusa Tenggara PLN management has ended its rolling power cut policy since July 1, 2010. Earlier on Monday, President Yudhoyono attended a national students art competition in Bali and in the afternoon he received global investor George Soros in his capacity as special envoy for climate change affairs of the United Nations secretary general.

The meeting took place at the Tampaksiring presidential palace at around 4.30 pm, after President Yudhoyono attended a national student art competition. In May this year President Yudhoyono received Soros at the presidential office in Jakarta.

In the May meeting in Jakarta the President expressed hope to Soros that countries in the world would do more to promote the results of the conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009 for the formulation of replacement for the Kyoto Protocol that would expire in 2012. The Head of State also conveyed the priority agenda Indonesia would carry out in fighting illegal logging and reducing the rate of forest encroachment.
