Cracked accounts on Bank Central Asia (BCA) have often occured in Jakarta, Bali, and other cities. Here is one of the stories.
Mrs. M from Grogol, West Jakarta recounts to Kompas.com how her BCA account was cracked. She said that it happened after her Ied Al-Fitr vacation to Singapore last year.
"After I returned (from Singapore), I wanted to withdraw money from an ATM counter. I was shocked to see that the balance was zero." She then reported it to the nearest BCA branch. The lost money summed up to Rp. 20 million.
After being traced, BCA stated that during her vacation there were two transactions with her card and PIN: a withdrawal and a transfer. Mrs. M claimed that she never gave her ATM card to anyone while she was on vacation.
After several inquiries BCA finally decided to refund all her lost money. A month after the incident BCA refunded her money to the same account.
After the incident Mrs. M admits that she has been traumatized though she still uses BCA's services, because one of it's branches is the closest to her home. However, she no longer leaves a large amount in her daily use account, but instead directs the bulk of her asset in a deposit."
