A member at the House of Representatives inquiry committee on the Bank Century case says that there is always a possibility for an impeachment as a result of the investigation on the case.
"The committee does not solely focus on impeachment, however, if we find that there has been a criminal conduct behind the case, then there is always a possibility for impeachment," Bambang Soesatyo of Golkar Party told reporters at the House building on Tuesday.
Bambang also said that his party had so far managed to find a number of law violations and abuse of power practices behind the case.
Separately, a committee member from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democratic Party, Iqsanul Qosasih, said that the president could not be held accountable for the case.
"From the bank's merger to its bailout, there has been no sign at all of Yudhoyono's involvement [in the process]," he said.
"Not all problems are the responsibility of the president. For this case, it is the responsibility of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) and its members," he said.
The KSSK authorized the bailout in November 2008 under the endorsement of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and the then Bank Indonesia governor, Boediono, who is the current vice president.
The bailout swelled 10 times from the previous estimate to Rp 6.7 trillion (US$716.9 million) in amount.
