Horrible! Each day 50 people were amputated




Port-au-Prince - massive earthquake that destroyed Haiti last week has led to a terrible humanitarian crisis. In addition to the number of deaths is very large, many Haitian citizens who survived but should be willing to lose one or more members of their bodies.

Had countless amputations of the doctors were forced to rescue the victims with serious injuries.

According to Daniel Rincon, a doctor from Colombia who works for the Red Cross, the surgeons do every day an average of about 50 amputations.

"Maybe 300 people have lost one or both feet or some parts of their bodies. Doctor, our surgeons worked 24 hours a day," said Rincon as reported by Daily Telegraph, Friday (22/1/2010).

Around 200 thousand people were estimated killed in an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter Scale that struck Haiti on 12 January. Even the death toll will continue to grow because a lot of injuries that have not been treated. The doctors have problems shortages of medicines and modern medical equipment.

"We did 30 operations on Tuesday. In six days before we have handled more than 1,000 Haitian citizens," said Thierry Allafort Duverger, the French doctor who joined in leading the French humanitarian organization, Medecins Sans Frontieres.

We have tens of thousands of Haitians were still being treated for serious injuries at the hospital, emergency hospital in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
