Computer USD 16 Million for Members of Parliament Too Expensive

Jakarta - Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) have computer facilities worth 16.05 million rupiah per unit. Computer prices were considered too expensive and a waste of state money.

"I think that's a big waste. Siatem This weak oversight in the House, so much happened potential mark-up," said researcher Budget Law and Politics of Indonesia Budget Center (IBC), Roy Salam, told AFP on Friday (22/1/2010) .

Earlier, Chairman of the House Marzuki Alie said, the price of computers is still confusing, some say USD 15 million, some say 20 million Rupiah. Clearly, the computer was already on the desk of each member.

In a document obtained by Roy, a total of a computer that held the Secretariat General of Parliament amounted to 687 units with a budget of 11.03 billion Rupiah. Dana was a definitive budget Secretariat General in 2009.

Roy explained, the price of personal computers (PCs) with the most advanced current specification at the most only 5 million Rupiah. So he thought there was swelling of funds amounting to 1 million Rupiah per unit.

"USD 11 million multiply it by how many 687? It is remarkable swelling," he explained.

Besides, continued Roy, work in the room members of the House not need a computer with sophisticated technology. A secretary to the Board members use the computer only for typing, make a schedule, making presentations, and find materials through the Internet.

"And sometimes just used to chat only," Roy said sarcastically.

Roy argues, rather than buying a new Secretariat General should upgrade the old computers that can still be used. That way, money spent only for the cost of maintenance and is much lighter.

"So things like this must be considered seriously mengudit CPC for the budget in Parliament. As far as I know often do not give CPC a comprehensive audit, which is often the same events recurring," he said.
