Jakarta, Indonesia (News Today) - Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said the city’s economic growth had reached the high level of 6.5 percent because of its residents’ great purchasing power.

"Jakarta city’s economic growth is very encouraging, namely 6.5 percent or higher than the national figure," said Fauzi here Wednesday.

The governor said the positive growth was achieved among other things because of its residents’ strong purchasing power. Jakartans’ spending power could be perceived in their consumptive attitude in the capital city’s shopping centers.

The fact was causing a dilemma in local governance in answering critics of new mall building permits, it contribute to the high economic level but on the other hand theses buildings had gobbled up the city’s open green space.

"Our response would be a great dilemma, and any circumstances on Jakarta’s economic growth must be further studied," he said.

In the National Meeting 2011 that was held here on Monday, Indonesian President said that the year’s economic growth target is at 6.4 percent.

Apart from that, government also stated the inflation target at 5.3 percent, unemployment rate to decrease to seven percent, and poverty level expected to be at around 11.5 to12.5 figures, the president said.

These targets can be achieved from the 2011 state budget (APBN) worth Rp1,229.6 trillion or increased 9.2 percent from the previous year’s state budget.
