Dumai, Indonesia (News Today) - Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said here Sunday that Indonesia’s economy has been on the 16th place in global economic ranking, above the previous projections.
"The prospect of Indonesian economy will be better than previously projected," said Minister Rajasa who was here for a working visit.Citing Bank Indonesia data, he said that Indonesian economic grew 6.0 percent in 2010 and was expected to grow 6.5 percent in 2011. By 2030, Indonesian per capita income would be 17,000 US dollars. This projection was based on the robust Indonesian economy that sustained a consistent growth since 1970, he said.
"At the end of this year, the per capita income will already reach 3,000 US dollars. This figure has already been beyond the target of the government," he said.
In addition to the strong domestic demands, the positive circumstances with the Indonesian economy had also been influenced by the recovery of the global economy as reflected by the growth in export since the fourth quarter of 2009.
The recovery of the global economy as seen from the indicators of the performances of industrialized countries, such as the United States and Japan, as well as regional economic giants, China and India, had all brought positive impacts to their trading partners, including Indonesia.
However, Minister Rajasa said he was of the opinion that the good development on the economic sector had not yet positively given the impacts on poverty reduction in all regions of Indonesia.
"Therefore, there should be a way out (to deal with poverty issues), something that must be made a home work not only for the central government but the regional governments as well, including Riau," he said.
Poverty and unemployment rates could not yet be reduced significantly over the past years. In 2005 poor people in Indonesia was registered amounting to 118 million, or 53.8 percent out of the total population.
